Recurring Decimals…..

Everything here is irrelevant

Where have all the (good) writers gone ?

(With apologies to Pete Seeger. )

….they are all blogging. Leaving us with species such as Sheela Bhatt who come up with gems such as:

Maitra won Mahajan — who was shot by his brother on April 22 and died in hospital on May 3 — over with his tremendous capacity to keep secrets without looking secretive, and his wit. In his small way he looked at the world of politics defiantly and differently.

His know weakness was for good food, which made him overweight and diabetic.

and :

Maitra wanted everyone to pronouce his name as Bibek, but journalists never learnt and stuck to Vivek.

His e-mail was bibek.maitra@gmail.com, which will be defunct from today.

Read the full thing and tell me if the writing any different from the infamous Indian Cow Essay. Few weeks ago there was this howler from Hindustan Times (someone probably alerted HT and hence they have taken down the original link – the full article is available here) and now this. Who exactly are being hired for churn out this crap – junior school drop-outs ?

Meanwhile Dhoomketu, as the fly on the wall, brings us the inside dope on how the report was literally strung together.  Must read !

UPDATE: Sheela Bhatt strikes again. Her grammar’s improved and her report now has some sort of a narrative structure – but thankfully, her propensity for unnecessary dramatization is not lost 😀  (link via comment on GreatBong’s post).

  1. […] More about this here and here. […]

  2. You sure getting on this Bhatt chick’s case. But if you notice closely, she does have the makings of a chicklit blogger (no offense to primalsoup, eM or their ilk) for the dramatization part. This latest article was definitely much better.

  4. […] 2. A man named Vivek died today. No, no! Unlike Nilu, I am not dead. Some people seem to believe that this is his obituary (Great Bong, Palscape, Dhoomk2). I don’t think you should call it that, though Dhoomk2 has made an assumption about this at the end of his post. Make no mistake, it is indeed a really bad report. Pseudo-journalism at its worst, sort of. […]
