The song, from the soundtrack of an Irish indie-film, Once, won the Oscars this year for Best Original Song (and featured in one classy moment of the awards when Jon Stewart asked one of the singers back to finish her acknowledgments) .
The singer-songwriters feature themselves in the movie, which as independent film-making as it gets, shot on location in Dublin in 17 days on a handycam !

Don’t know about you, but this was the real pleasant surprise this year’s Academy awards threw up for me. Beautifully written and sung. The recording sounds somewhat like done location with a handycam too. By the way, your link isn’t working.

@partho/aparna: thanks for pointing out the broken link. Originally I had the video of the song as performed at the Oscars - but I guess the Academy yanked it from youtube ! This version is actually better.
Partho, yeah the song is indeed beautiful. And refreshingly different from the Disney domination.
