Dinesh D’souza is a right-wing extremist nut-case and (therefore?) a self-proclaimed intellectual, who has gone to town with a ridiculous assetion that the so-called ‘cultural left’ in America (e.g Hollywood, gay people etc) was actually responsible for 9/11. His main motive, of course, is to sell a book.
His delusional rambling have received well-deserved smackdowns from Keith Olberman (via), various blogs (e.g see here) and in person on the The Colbert Report (dude never even realized that Colbert was having him). The twisted sense of logic he operates on is further exposed in this Newsweek article (Via Ed Brayton), which provides a list of people that D’Souza considers to be ‘the enemy’. The full list is available at either links, but one name particularly jumped out for me (and Ed talks about it too)
The Cultural Left
Norman Mailer, Salman Rushdie and Toni Morrison, novelists; journalists Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd (The New York Times); playwright Eve Ensler ("The Vagina Monologues"); authors Barbara Ehrenreich ("Nickel and Dimed") and Karen Armstrong ("A History of God")
WTF ! Rushdie - the same guy who was the target of a fatwa by Ayotollah, who had to go in hiding for a decade on that account and has never been circumspect in his harsh criticism of Islam. This same guy is considered to be part of a "domestic insurgency" and "at least as dangerous" as bin Laden’s operatives !

It’s difficult to tell if D’Souza actually believes his own nonsense or is just saying this stuff to sell a few books to the gullible fools of the right wing. Although considering what this book implies, namely that Americans are inviting terror by not acting in conformance with the terrorists’ world view is so against the ideology of the flag waving right that it’s extraordinary no one on the right is coming out against it. Think of the ruckus that might have been caused if, say, Michael Moore had released a similar treatise.

I think he is same as O’Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Malkin and Coulter. They put these artificial facts into their head and then propagate the same. I saw that video a while back. This guy is a complete nut case. I am glad rediff and other haven’t jumped to claim this moron as an Indian like they did with Bobby Jindal. I’d be ashamed if anyone started saying - that Indian D’souza.

The Newsweek list of enemies of America is quite amusing. Just one blogger made the list - Markos Moulitsas of the Daily Kos.
Gawker has it exactly right. If we comply with everything D’Souza prescibes, it will be almost exactly what Bin Laden would approve. The fact is that D’Souza, Coulter, O’Reilly, Malkin and their ilk are much closer to Osama than they are to most Americans or citizens of other democratic, open societies - they just wear different hair dos and deodorants.
D’Souza had dated both Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham. Can you imagine the quality of the pillow talk if either of the two unions had gone through? (I don’t know who he is married to now and if she too is a right wing babe.)
BTW, it doesn’t really matter to me that he is Indian born and if everyone knows it. Who says Indians can’t be idiots?

Gawker: I think its similar to what George Costanza’s logic in Seinfeld ‘its not a lie if you believe it’ ! The commercial angle is certainly, but they have to
OI: Rediff and other jump on the Indian bandwagon only when there is positive stuff to report.
Ruchira: Although many people have expressed surprise that an Indian immigrant would say things like this - for nut-cases, the nationality and origin don’t matter.
He dated both Coulter and Inghram ?! Wow - perhaps thats what messed up his minf !

Didn’t know he dated Coulter. That solves the puzzle. And here I was thinking that maybe it was his childhood…
